Welcome to Discover Asia Travel and our Sea Kayak Tours of South Thailand for fun and adventure!

We offer the best sea kayak programs in south Thailand. Our Thai sea kayak guides are well-trained professionals who have years of hands on experience in sea kayaking and in depth knowledge about the ecosystems and cultures of south Thailand. We run environment friendly sea kayak trips and take every precaution to protect and preserve the natural environment.

Phang Nga Kayak Expedition Highlights:

Shallow depths, low-lying beach access and sea caves that open and close with the tides make Phang Nga itineraries totally dependent upon the tides, making each trip "One of A Kind". In any case, to get you adjusted to sea kayaking and because of the difficulties of sea cave navigation, the first day is fully guided in our self-designed SOTAR inflatable kayaks.

Your guide will paddle for you through a complicated maze of tidal sea arches and caves into a chain of small lagoons. This allows you to relax and enjoy the ambiance of Phang Nga Bay.

During the afternoon, we provide training for our single seat hard shell Sit On Top kayaks. Since we visit sites with larger entrances on later days you get the chance to paddle your own single seat hard shell Sit On Top kayak for Days Two and Three. Of course, our guides accompany you and continue to offer instruction throughout the trip, along with natural history information on geology, botany and zoology. Primates, water monitors, White Bellied Sea Eagles and Brahminy kites are seen throughout the trip.

Passing through tidal tunnels and caves filled with bats, and getting in the middle of limestone islands with lagoons surrounded by untouched lush vegetation and wildlife is a breath taking experience! Sea kayaking in Phang Nga Bay with us is an adventurous and learning experience with so much fun.

Best Season: Best time is October to June. However, we can kayak year round.

Phang Nga Kayak Camp, Ta Kow Village, Koh Yao Noi : (1 night / 2 days - 2 nights / 3 days)

Designed for relaxation, Ta Kow bungalows are picturesque, well built for relaxation, and on the beach. Mut wants to keep the place small and quiet, so he's built only four units, with the fifth and last bungalow under construction. One large bungalow is leased by a Farong who makes his three rooms available when he's not there. Sunrise is brilliant-over the jagged cliffs of Krabi with the Bay's limestone islands in the foreground.

Many folks relax here for weeks, but kayaking within Phang Nga's limestone is our real attraction. From Ta Kow, a half-dozen of the most picturesque spots in sea kayaking are within an hour by longtail. Almost anybody can make Lau Gudu a self-paddle day trip, and strong kayakers can cross to the East Bay's limestone islands in under an hour. On some low tides, mudflats appear but it's not a problem. Mut's Tuk-tuk picks you up from Ta Kow's all tide brand new pier.

Sit-On-top kayaks are Ocean Kayak Scrambler XTs, Scupper Pros and Malibu IIs. Great for families with small children, our self-designed SOTAR inflatables are usually available on request (you may be disappointed during high season).

The bungalow-based experience is an excellent alternative for folks who don't want to camp out, and is dry in the rainy season.

Phang Nga Bay Day Trip

This day trip takes through tidal tunnels and caves filled with bats to the middle of limestone islands with lagoons surrounded by untouched lush vegetation and wildlife which is absolutely is a breath taking experience! Sea kayaking in Phang Nga Bay with us is an adventurous and learning experience with so much fun. If you have not sea kayaked Phang Nga Bay, then, you have not been to Phuket!

Despite our day trip's high profile, we aren't interested in volume - the caves simply were not designed for more than eight kayaks at a time.

We do visit caves because they are part of Phang Nga's natural history, but we only offer this trip to introduce curious minds and concerned conservationists to our World. If you don't care about quality, kayaking, natural history or professionalism, there are many other options.

We are lifelong environmental activists, and we don't run "tours". We started this particular "Work of Art" in 1990 as a conservation educational experience, and the Phang Nga Day Trip became an international award-winning "Must Do" adventure.

We make a game of avoiding the crowds, and still deliver a Great Natural History experience.

Hot Tip:

Still one of the World's great day trips, Phang Nga Sea Canoeing is popular with scuba divers on the last day before flying home.

Sea Kayak Expeditions in Koh Tarutao Islands of South Thailand Koh Tarutao Marine National Park is the largest marine sanctuary in Southeast Asia - App. 1,500 square kilometers). Islands are thickly carpeted with pristine hardwood forests, mangrove estuaries are filled with wildlife, and the crystal clear water harbors excellent coral reefs.

Tarutao's most striking feature is the pristine hardwood forest that carpets the island. Hardwood trees up to 70 meters often extend down to water's edge. This forest holds numerous species of mammals, birds and reptiles which maybe seen on either nature walks or kayak paddles. During high season, four species of sea turtle nest within the Park, but sightings cannot be predicted. We do visit some Hongs (caves), but this is primarily a self-paddle nature and wildlife trip. Tarutao's estuaries contain large and pristine mangrove forests heavily populated by mammals, birds and reptiles. Sightings of macaques, langur, kingfishers, hornbills, pythons and water monitors are common. Of course, wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Tarutao hosts several excellent sand camping beaches.

Koh Adang and Koh Rawi also host pristine hardwood forests, yet their surrounding waters have high visibility and colorful coral reefs. We often see porpoise and free-jumping sailfish.

Wings of the White Belly Sea Eagle : 6 Nights / 7 Day Overnighter

Featuring-Phang Nga Bay Sea Kayaking/Mountain Cave/Tarutao National Park Camping

Spend three days exploring Phang Nga Bay, overnight near the Peninsula's summit at a waterfall/wildlife sanctuary with a 2k high mountain wet cave and jungle stream, then finish with three nights and days at Tarutao in the Far South. Follow White Belly sea eagles, Bramany kites, and Brown Fish owls to their secret spots in hongs, mangrove estuaries, and colorful limestone cliffs. Most birds know us by sight and some may be our rehab projects. Also explore the summit of the Isthmus of Kra (Malay Peninsula) with an overnight stop at a wildlife sanctuary including a limestone waterfall, 2k high mountain cave and jungle stream paddle. Small groups go in cabined longtail - fast, traditional, close to the water. Large groups go in cabined escort boat w/ dining deck, galley, showers, and toilets.

Bramany kites are everywhere. White Belly Sea Eagles are territorial and found in specific locations. Both species frequently approach our boat. Brown Fish Owls are less obvious, with occasional sightings. Play with a school of free jumping sailfish. Water monitors, Dusky Langurs, and Crab-eating macaque are common. Remember that wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

The Tarutao region includes excellent rock gardens, a triple-entry hong, excellent wildlife and world class snorkeling. Phang Nga's world-class reputation is well established, and the transition day in the highlands is dazzling. Our first clients tell us that South Thailand is the only spot they know that equals Alaska sea kayaking. We wouldn't know - Alaska is to cold for us!

Depending upon the tides, this 7-day trip runs either Phang Nga-Tarutao or Tarutao-Phang Nga. The Southern terminus is Pak Bara, easily accessible by ground from Had Yai International Airport. Our convenient "Taxi Run" schedule saves costs, adds an extra day, and allows Phuket arrivals and departures for only US$33, meals included.

You start with a fresh-water stream cave at the Peninsula's Summit, and then paddle the same waters in coastal mangroves and eventually the Andaman Sea. The descent down the Western slope of the biologically significant Malay Peninsula makes "Summit to the Sea" a great outdoor experience.

Combine the Phang Nga Mini-Expedition and Summit to the Sea for a low-season option to "Wings of the White Belly" when the Andaman Sea is too rough to access Tarutao.

DAY 1 -
From Trang or Hat Yai you drive to dramatic valleys sloping from the summit of the Malay Peninsula, where we make camp in a Wildlife sanctuary. After a swim in a stair-stepped limestone waterfall and lunch, we take an afternoon hike to the Peninsula's most dramatic waterfall. The area is so remote and pristine - and biologically important - that Caveman calls this classic land bridge "Darwin Country". After the trek, complete with swim, we return to camp and enjoy dinner in the mountain woods with the waterfall in the background.

DAY 2 -
We kayak a 2K-stream cave headwaters of a river that eventually empties into mangroves. We follow the stream through 15K of jungle, then picnic at the Wildlife Sanctuary. After an hour's drive down rubber-cultivated slopes, we explore mangroves in the late afternoon with hopes of visiting crab-eating macaques enjoying sunset dinner, or with great luck, stunning and elusive Silver Langurs. . That morning, you paddled headwaters that created this vast mangrove swamp. Once the primates finish their meal, you paddle back to your camp or bungalow.

DAY 3 -
After breakfast, a longtail boat drops us off to paddle more mangroves, a sea arch, and explore Three Dimensional Rock garden including a triple entry Hong before returning to Pak Bara at 1530, convenient for a 1600 van transfer that gets you to Hat Yai Airport in time for the 7PM Bangkok flight. (Hat Yai transfer is not included).

DAY FOUR OPTION - Designed as an add-on to the Phang Nga Mini-Expedition, this trip adds a day starting at the fishing village of Chao Mai and finishing with a series of mountain waterfalls.Hot Tip - "Summit to the Sea" packs adventure, culture, nature -and insights - into three or four short days. Guests say the trip really doesn't sink in until the flight back to Bangkok.

Starting with a fresh-water stream cave at the Peninsula's Summit and paddling through layers of Eco-systems down to the Andaman Sea, then on to an escort boat exploration of exotic limestone islands, this trip is an ultimate outdoor experience.

We explore rock gardens on the way to Tarutao, where we arrive just in time for sunset and beach camping. Krabi Sea Kayak Tours:

Krabi has one of the most spectacular beaches and small islands made up of craggy limestone cliffs. Railey Beach is one of the most exclusive destinations that is surrounded by a sheer wall of limestone cliffs. These cliffs cut off from the mainland, prohibits vehicle access. Hence, the sandy beach is undisturbed by rocks or coral and slopes gently into the sea, which is studded with small craggy islands and coral-sea gardens. Railey Beach is also a popular destination for rock climbers these days, experienced and beginners, from around the world.

Accommodations of various standards are available at Railey Beach and Ao Nang Beach. Railey Beach has individual cottages of several standards, middle class and tourist class, all shaded by the original coconut palms. Ao Nang Beach, located nearby, has many choices of accommodations, luxury to tourist class hotel resorts. Meals are available at several restaurants on the beach, all serving local Thai and Western cuisine at reasonable prices.

The many craggy karst islands visible from the beaches are ideal for boating and snorkeling. There is considerable exploring to do nearby. Outside and inside the many limestone cliffs, the possibilities for rock climbing and caving are infinite.

Ao Nang Beach is our main launch pad for most of our outdoor activities around Krabi and beyond. From here, we arrange many popular outdoor activities, including Yacht Sail or Long-Tailed Boats to nearby islands, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving and Sea Kayaking, Jungle Trips, and Cave Explorations.

Our trips take you through tidal tunnels to the pristine center of craggy limestone islands to see untouched lush vegetation and wildlife with its spectacular vertical cliffs.

If you plan to visit or stay at Railei Beach, it is necessary to travel there by a long-tailed boat from Ao Nang Beach (November to April) or Ao Nam Mao (May to October). The journey takes about 15 minutes and the boat fee 50 Baht per person must be paid by the guest.

We offer sea kayak day trips to explore Krabi's wild mangrove forests, karst island, lagoons, beaches and caves. Please ask us in advance and book your tours or hotel accommodations with Discover Asia Travel Co., Ltd., your most reliable tour operator in Thailand.
